Nintendo Responds to Operation Moonfall

Nintendo of America have responded to the Operation Moonfall petition, a fan movement that started a few days ago that aims to get Nintendo to remake Majora's Mask for the 3DS. Karla Lerback (a representative of Nintendo of America) wrote a modest email, reproduced below:

"Hello,
Thanks for writing. We appreciate the enthusiasm of our Zelda fans! I can understand why you would like to see this game released for the Nintendo 3DS. I would like you to know that your comments have been documented and reported to the relevant departments here at Nintendo.

At the risk of dampening the excitement you feel, I must be clear that no official announcements have been made regarding a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask for the Nintendo 3DS. However, we like hearing what our consumers find important.

We hope you continue to enjoy the Nintendo 3DS and all the great titles currently available or on their way. Keep checking our website (Country Selector at Nintendo) for all the latest news andinformation.

Sincerely,
Karla Lerback
Nintendo of America Inc."

This is a pretty standard bureaucratic response, which doesn't offer much insight but does not eliminate the possibility of the remake happening. So if you want Majora's Mask to get remade, you're just going to have to keep waiting and get your friends to sign the Operation Moonfall petition.

Operation Moonfall is go

Remember the Eiji Aonuma interview with Nintendo Power, where Aonuma mentioned "I think certainly if there was a similar output of emotion and clamor from fans for a remake of Majora's Mask, it wouldn't be an utter impossibility"? Thousands of Zelda fans have responded to this quote, and are campaigning for Nintendo to remake Majora's Mask for the 3DS. It's called Operation Moonfall, named after another recent campaign Operation Rainfall, which aims to get Nintendo to localize a few Japanese Wii games.

The movement already has it's own website, plus Twitter and Facebook pages. You can sign a petition, which already has over 5,000 signatures. This isn't a negative movement, since Nintendo isn't denying anything to their fans, but rather they wanted to see what kind of support a Majora's Mask remake would have. For me, the success of this movement depends on whether Nintendo can get Grezzo to develop the game (which seems likely if Nintendo decide it's worth doing a Majora's Mask remake). As long as this doesn't distract Nintendo from producing new content, a Majora's Mask remake would be an excellent addition to the 3DS since it appears that so many fans want it.

Although it is rare that fan campaigns like this influence big gaming companies (and Operation Rainfall looks set to fail), Moonfall may very well work since Nintendo established that remaking Majora's Mask is a realistic possibility. Perhaps this movement will give the push that's needed to make the remake a reality.

Ocarina of Time wins IGN's tournament

The results of IGN's Zelda tournament are now out. Voting closed the other day, and the winner out of the last two remaining games, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, was... Ocarina of Time. Ocarina of Time comfortably won the poll, getting 24,563 votes whilst Majora's Mask only managed to get 16,599. Still, I would be skeptical as to whether this result represents the opinions of the fans. As recent history has shown, there are many ways for voters to fiddle with online polls, not to mention that sometimes the host is not impartial and might artificially inflate one game's rating with a few votes. Then again, the winner being Ocarina of Time is hardly surprising.

Link to the Future Fan Film

Something cool I found off Zelda Dungeon, it's a short parody of the Legend of Zelda series. The video focuses on the Zelda timeline. It's pretty well-made for a fan video so check it out.

Gameboy in Space!

Gameboy in Space

Here's a great post I got from Zelda Universe. The Bonhams Space History Sale is an auction where buyers can purchase items that have been in space. Some of these items have sold for over $10,000. Among the items was a Gameboy, along with a Tetris cartridge, booklet and signed note, that fetched $1,220. This Gameboy was played at Mir, a Russian Space Station. The Gameboy spent 196 days in space, and hence orbited the earth greater than 3,000 times! The above image is a picture of all the items in that particular auction. Notice the faded Mir logo on the centre of the Gameboy.

Ocarina of Time vs. Majora's Mask

IGN's Zelda tournament is coming to a close, with only one round left pitching, perhaps unsurprisingly, Ocarina of Time vs. Majora's Mask. Which game, if any, do you think deserves to win? The only way to support your favourite game is to get over to IGN and vote, by clicking the link below. You can also follow this link to view which game is the winner, which will be announced soon!

IGN's Legend of Zelda Tournament

Just a reminder that some of the rounds are over now, and there are only four games left in two rounds. In one half of the ladder The Wind Waker is against Ocarina of Time, whilst in the other half Majora's Mask is battling against Twilight Princess. None of the handheld Zelda titles were able to make it to such a late stage - the final few rounds are completely dominated by console titles. I predict Ocarina of Time will win overall, but we'll see.

The Hyrule Times

IGN recently restarted an old series of articles, the Hyrule Times. In the wake of the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, IGN will once again run regular articles about the importance of Ocarina of Time: "We won't stop once Ocarina of Time hits stores. As the release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword approaches, we'll switch gears to examine what we expect from Wii's last major title."

Legend of Zelda Game Tournament

To celebrate the rich history of the Legend of Zelda series, IGN have created a Legend of Zelda Game Tournament where you can vote for your favourite Zelda games! The tournament is organized into a series of rounds, with two games competing in each round. Every Zelda game is there - even the CD-I ones. The first round is between Ocarina of Time and Zelda's Adventure, whilst the other half is between A Link to the Past and The Wand of Gamelon... I wonder who will win?

Make your own Zelda Chest

Here's something cool I found on on of our affiliates, LegendZelda.net. It's a tutorial on how to make your own chest from the Legend of Zelda series. The dude also teaches you how to install an electric appliance that will play the chest opening music when you open up your chest, too. Hey, it's something to do while we're waiting for the release of Skyward Sword, right? Click here to get started on your own cardboard chest.
