Races of Hyrule

Zelda Anouki Anouki
The Anouki are an eskimo-like race who live on the Frost Island.

Deku Scrub Link Deku Scrubs
Deku Scrubs are small creatures that often disguise themselves as shrubs and plants, only to pop out of the ground! Some are friendly, and will offer to sell you stuff, just be sure you don't get ripped off. Others are hostile and will shoot seeds at you, which you often need to deflect back at them using your shield in order to defeat them. Deku Scrubs have also been a source of useful information throughout the Zelda series. Sometimes after you defeat a Deku Scrub, instead of it disappearing straight off it will give you some valuable information, or an item, in exchange for you letting it run away!

Zelda Fairy

Fairies
There are two main types of fairies. In Ocarina of Time, every Kokiri is assigned a guardian fairy. Fairies can also be found throughout hyrule, and they will heal Link. There are also Great Fairies. The Great Fairies are very powerful, and difficult to find. Finding them is well worth it though, as they offer upgrades and new items!

Zelda Gerudo

Gerudo
The Gerudo are a tribe of thieves, whose population consists of women only. Every one hundred years, a male Gerudo is born, and that male is destined to become the king of all the Gerudo.

Zelda Goron

Gorons
The Gorons are rock eating creatures who dwell in rocky places - such as on top of the Death Mountain in Ocarina of Time. They are strong and adventurous creatures, but they are so heavy that they can't swim. Gorons can curl up into a defensive position and charge towards an enemy by rolling at an alarmingly fast speed.

Zelda Hylian

Hylians
The Hylians are basically the Legend of Zelda's version of humans. Link is himself a Hylian. They commonly inhabit Hyrule, and have long pointy ears. The Hylians are the chosen race of the three goddesses of Hyrule, presiding over the other races of Hyrule. Hylians are a very skilled race, building villages, mastering magic and potions, and more.

Zelda Kokiri

Kokiri
The Kokiri are a race of children who never grow old. They live in the Kokiri Forest, and according to legend any Kokiri who leaves the forest will die. While the Kokiris may appear young, many have in fact existed for centuries.

Zelda Koroks

Koroks
The Koroks are a race of tree-like beings. They are revealed to have evolved from the Kokiris. When Hyrule was engulfed by the Great Sea, the Kokiris changed from their Human form as a result of living on the sea for so long. Their home is the forest haven, though they spend a lot of their time outside it, planting the seeds of the Great Deku Tree.

Zelda Minish Picori

Minish (aka Picori)
The Minish are very small beings that inhabit the world of the Minish Cap. They look like a cross between human and mice, and they sport pointy ears. They have their own secret villages, but they also secretly live among normal Hylians. Many believe they are just a fictional race, but they are very real. The Minish only reveal themselves to children, and they cannot be seen by adults.

Zelda Ritos

Ritos
The ritos look like a cross between people and birds. However, a Rito has to earn their right to fly, as they are not born with wings nor do they naturally grow. Instead, they must go to the great dragon, Valoo, in order to recieve their wings. The Rito also operate a pretty efficient postal service.

Zelda Sheikah

Sheikah
The Sheikah are mysterious beings, and they are threatened with the prospect of extinction. They protect the royal family of Hyrule. In Ocarina of Time, the last remaining Sheikah is Impa, a guardian of the Princess Zelda. The Sheikah are also known as the 'Shadow Folk.'

Zelda Subrosians

Subrosians
The Subrosians inhabit a world named Subrosia. Subrosia is only accessible from the various portals hidden throughout the land of Holodrum. Subrosia is a world covered with lava and volcanoes, and the Subrosians can withstand huge amounts of heat - for example, they take baths in pools of lava! The Subrosians wear robes which hide their bodies and faces. Their currency is different from rupees, instead they deal in Ore Chunks.

Zelda Tokay

Tokays
The Tokays are lizard like creatures who live on Crecsent Island, located in the realm of Labrynna. They look primitive, but they are pretty intelligent. At one point, Link is shipwrecked on Tokay island and the Tokays steal all of Link's possessions, though thankfully Link manages to eventually get them back!

Zelda Zora

Zoras
There are two kinds of Zora: the River Zoras, and the Sea Zoras. The River Zoras are enemies found in many of the Zelda games, such as Link's Awakening. They swim around in bodies of water, shooting fire balls at Link. The Sea Zoras are a different and friendly race who preside in the Zora's Domain. They are exceptional swimmers.
