Zelda Characters - Link

Link is the main protagonist of the Legend of Zelda series. Typically he comes equipped with a Sword, Shield, and his famous green tunic and hood. He is typically left handed, though in Twilight Princess (and in the upcoming Skyward Sword) he is right handed in order to accomodate for the Wii Mote. He has a child form, and an adult form. In Ocarina of Time you switch between adult and child, in other games Link is always one or the other. Link never has any explicit speaking parts in the games, perhaps a reflection of Nintendo wishing for players to interprate Link's words themselves. Link is a courageous hero chosen by the Gods of Hyrule in order to prevent Ganon from taking over Hyrule.

Features and Attacks
Link is a very skilled swordsman. As well as utilizing straightforward sword attacks, he is very nimble and can roll and jump around enemies in order to strike them off guard. Link also has a famous sword spin attack, where the player holds down the button to charge energy, and then releases the button in order to have Link spin the Sword in a circle around him in a very powerful attack that can also naturally strike multiple enemies. Link typically has a wide array of weapons at his disposal, ranging from slingshots and bows to magical abilities, such as the elemental medallions in A Link to the Past.

Although Link has his famous green tunic, other types of armor are made available to him. In the re-release of Link's Awakening, Link's Awakening DX, upon completion of the colour dungeon, the player can choose to wear a blue or red tunic, each tunic boosting link's defensive or offensive power respectively. In Ocarina of Time, the Goron (red) and Zora (blue) tunics are available to Link.

Cameos and other Appearances
Link makes significant appearances in the Super Smash Bros games. He is able to use all kinds of attacks that are faithful to the Legend of Zelda games, such as bombs, arrows and boomerangs. Link is not the fastest of characters, but has a varied fighting style. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, you could also play as Young Link. However, Young Link was a seperate character from the default (adult) Link, and it was quite a tricky character to unlock. Link also made a welcome appearance in Soul Calibur II. Similarly to Super Smash Bros, Link possessed an array of attacks faithful to the Legend of Zelda series, including his powerful spin attack, making him a very fun character to play as!
